About My Clockwork Castle

The beginning

My journey began in August 2013, in the summer between my first and second year of university. After reading Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, I wanted to buy myself some steampunk jewellery, but didn't want anything overly flamboyant as I prefer pieces which are more modern and minimalist in style. I couldn't find anything which fitted that description so I decided to make some myself! I found the inner workings of vintage watches absolutely fascinating and loved working with them to create something which was both intricate yet beautifully simple. Reading into the history of timepieces made me love my newly found craft even more. Before smartphones a watch was often the most valuable item that someone would carry on their person - I was taking something that would have once been treasured and up-cycling it to create something that would (hopefully!) be treasured once more. After a little while, and plenty of compliments on the pieces I'd made, I took the leap and listed a few pieces on Etsy. With a lot of hard work, and little bit of luck, my shop grew over three years to become a popular online destination for high quality, whimsically themed, jewellery. Between 2013 and 2016 1000s of items of jewellery went to new homes!

The present

I closed the shop in December 2016 due to starting a demanding full-time job, and wanting to develop some new product lines - I had always planned to reopen after a few months. Unfortunately, just as I was about to reopen in October 2017, I got the devastating news that my mum had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. For the next 22 months, everything was put on hold.

My mum passed away on 1 September 2019 and I haven't felt ready to commit to reopening the shop until now.

I also have an Etsy shop where you can buy one off items, supplies and place custom orders.
